The Black Engineers and Science Student Association (BESSA) is a collegiate chapter affiliated under the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). We were founded on the campus of UC Berkeley in 1968. Our mission statement is as follows:
"To increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers and scientists who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community."
We offer our members three main benefits; Academic Excellence (Study jams, club study groups, Faculty mentorship), Professional Development (Resume Building, Mock-Interviews, Company Networking Events), and Community Outreach (Berkeley High School NSBE Jr., A Stand for Education, All About STEM). Along with these benefits members can attend our general body meetings where we host workshops or company visits from Airbnb, Verizon, General Motors and many more. Members are offered the opportunity to attend multiple conferences and conventions as well. For example the Regional Leadership Conference and NSBE National Convention. Throughout the semester we have various socials including but not limited to; bowling, roller skating, ropes course, inter-collegiate meet-ups, end of the year banquet, and more.
